This is an extremely rare bronze of "Robert Benoist" Delage - Bugatti racing driver in the 1920,s

 

Robert Benoist was born in 1895 near the town of Rambouillet in France.

As joung man, Benoist joined the de Marcay car company as a test driver.

Hé then moved on to Salmson and was very successful in cyclecar  races before being signed to drive for Delage in1924.

The next year , he won the French Grand Prix.

In 1927, he driving a Delage 15-S-8, hé won the French, Spainish, Italian and British Grand Prix races, earning the season championship title for the French manufacturer.

Hé is the only driver ever to win these major Grand Prix races in the same year and his accomplishment earned him the Legion of Honor from the French government.

When Delage car company dropped out of racing, Robert Benoist was without a job and was appointed manager of the Banville Garage in Paris.

Hé did occasional races for the Bugatti team, finishing second in the 1928 San Sebastián Grand Prix in Spain.

The following year he teamed up with Attilio Marinoni to win the Spa 24 hours race in Belgium driving a Alfo Romeo.

At the end of the season hé retired until 1934, when he made a comeback with the Bugatti team.

Hé was soon made head of the competition department and masterminded the company`s Le Mans programme.

In 1937 hé partnered with Jean-Pierre Wimille to win the 24 hours of Le Mans endurance race.

Following that victory, Robert Benoist retired permanently.

 

This beautiful and wel sculpted master piece depicts Robert Benoist, the famous French car racing driver who won the Grand Prix of Franch in 1927,runing a Delage 15-S-8.

 

It is made of patinated bronze cast in the lost wax process and mounted on a black marble cigar astray or desktop holder base.

 

The bronze base reads: "Robert Benoist / Grand Prix / 1927"

This is an extremely hard to find sculpture of a racing car from the 1920,s with driver and mechanic.

This sculpture is from metal with a bronze patination, is mounted on a marble base. Dated from around 1920 and in very good condition for his age.

Demension around 9"inch long [230mm.]

Created in pure Art Deco style.

Formed and hand crafted to represent the radiator of the world famous prestige car company Bugatti.

The name Bugatti is not only legendary, it carries a certain magic.

The outer case is made of alloy, outsite has been beautifully polished to give it its slick,

elegant and iconic finish.

It has a brass radiator cap and superb enamelled , red Bugatti badge.

Some parts are marked in places 99/250, which reference to the number made.

The quality of the build, the limited number, make it a very rare piece.

It stands 7 1/2 inches high, 4 1/2 inches at its widest and 2 inches deep, an weighs 1.5 KG.

A real clock that oozes style and exclusivity, that would look superb in any stylish, modern surroundings.
